From the Hollywood Reporter article: Sutherland would play the pivotal role of Charlie's mentor and father to Charlie's love interest, Stella ( Charlize Theron). Was the guy in the original the mentor to Caine's character? If so, looks like it.

Some tidbit from the Boston Hearld:
NU puts its Mark in film

In other prop news, Northeastern University is dogged in its attempts for national exposure. Why should Harvard get all the good Hollywood gigs, right?

The Huskies have already had their college gear featured on ``Spin City'' and ``Everyone Loves Raymond'' this past season. And now there's some barking about placement on the silver screen!

Word is, Paramount Pictures' prop peeps rang up the Huntington Avenue school the other day seeking some Huskies garb and other collegiate tchotchkes for the remake of the old heist caper, ``The Italian Job.'' The flick stars Dorchester's own Mark Wahlberg, who didn't study at NU. But at least he knows where it is!

Lianne, Thank you! now I understood that Donald Sutherland would play a mentor of Charlie.
And Thank you for the info too, from the Boston Hearld.

I don't understand the meaning of "Huskies" in this text.

Thank you! Lianne. It is the University's mascot, I see. I went to the NU website, and saw the Huskies logo

I dont think they are going to re-do everything exactly the same as the first film, at least I hope not!

I sincerely doubt Mark's doing a British accent considering a majority of the cast are Americans. The movie takes place in Italy and LA, so I suspect the characters will be Americans than try to make everyone else learn to do an accent. Not every actor is very good at accents, it takes alot of coaching. As discussed remakes are usually better if they don't try to be exact copies of the original. So most likely the famous lines uttered by Caine won't be happening (unless it pops up as an inside joke that fits in the movie - like the character acting British to fool people)

And its not a Guy Ritchie film. F. Gary Grey is the director. It was Jason who worked previously on Ritchie's film. Read more carefully.

It is hard trying to remake a classic film though this one is being completely updated and should be good, can you imagine trying to do a remake of Gone with the Wind, you just couldn't do it justice.
