How stupid are those Oscar people?
Mark Wahlberg so deserved an Oscar nom for Best Actor!! Who was nominated that year...Jack Nicholson (As Good As It Gets), Matt Damon (Good Will Hunting), Robert DuVall (The Apostle), Peter Fonda (Ulee's Gold) and Dustin Hoffman (Wag The Dog).
Out of those 5, only Nicholson and Damon were deserving. The other 3 old fogies were utter ****.
Wahlberg displayed a great talent in Boogie Nights by illustrating the differnt layers there are in adopting another persona. He brilliantly mocked the soap opera style acting of porn flicks and you could tell how much he (not to mention the rest of the cast) was enjoying himself!
The Academy voters take everything so seriously! Sure they honoured Burt Reynolds and Julianne Moore with supporting nods, but what's an ensemble film without its central protagonist??!!!
Next time dear Academy, think before you snub my darling Mark. Not only does he have the perfect body, mind, heart and soul... he is one **** of an actor and you better recognize!!! |

I agree Mark is one of the most gifted actors I know. His performance on Boogies Nights definately deserved as nomination. Actually believe his Three Kings performance deserved one as well.

No matter what, Mark deserves an oscar for all those incredible movies that wouldn't have been better without him! |

I just watched Boogie Nights recently and I too am really surprised there was no nomination. I am truly able to put aside my bias (that he is hot!), because although his face was cute and I still wanted to rape him, he was NOT at his hottest in this film (ugh, the hair, the clothes!). And so a real acting range shone through...I was amazed! It was a long film to carry and he did great. He really put himself on the line, did some things that other actors would not do (simulating masturbation not once but several times is only on example). Really impressive and yes, robbed of at least a nomination, probably just because he used to be Marky Mark. |

Yeah I also believe he didn't get one because he still was thought of as his "Marky Mark" persona. I don't think conservative Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences took seriously a guy who made some disparaging remarks regarding gays and made a name for himself grabbing his crotch. Personally, I think he should have at least received a nomination. Mark is a terrific actor who can speak a thousand words with just one facial expression. |

Couldn't agree more............ROBBED! Its such a great film, but it is also incredibly controversial, so that is why he didn't win! |
